George Washington

George Washington was the President of the United States of America
from 1789 to 1797.He was the first President and was most well known for his
punctuality and sincerity.

He was always prompt for all his meetings and functions. The clock would even skip
time but George Washington would n't. He had a Personal Secretary in his
administration who was opposite of him when it comes to punctuality. It bothered
George Washington very much.

One day the secretary came late for work. The President waited for him for twenty
long minutes.
The secretary apologized to the President for arriving late.
He said
'Sorry,My President,my watch stopped working and I didn't know what time it was.
Sorry for the delay."
The President smiled at him and said "I think it's time you bought a good watch
which shows the right time,or I will look for another secretary who has a watch that functions
well."

The secretary got the message and never came late ever again.

THe lion and the wise rabbit

Once upon a time there lived a ferocious lion in the forest.
It was greedy lion and started killing animals in the forest to satisfy its
appetite. The animals were very scared and feared the fate.Seeing this, the
animals gathered and decided to approach the lion with the offer of one animal of each species volunteering itself to be eaten by the lion ereryday.

So everyday it was the turn of one of the animals. Each animal went prey to the
lion crying every day bidding goodbye to its family and friends. This custom
continued and there was unpleasantness everywhere in the forest and it was
time for the rabbit to go now.The rabbits chosen an old rabbit among them.
The rabbit was wise. It took its own sweet time togo to the Lion.
The Lion was getting impatient on ot seeing any animal come by and swore to
kill all animals the next day.

The rabbit then strode along to the Lion by sunset. The Lion was angry with him.
But the wise rabbit was calm and slowly told the Lion that it was not his fault.
He said "Don't get angry at me Lion,I wanted to come to you early, but I saw
another fierce lion like you on the way,and he tried to eat me.I had to run from
him to come to you."

He also said that other Lion was challenging the supremacy of his Lordship the Lion.
The Lion was fierce after hearing this from the rabbit. Then the lion asked
"Take me to the place you met the other lion who challenged me. I will tear him
apart and prove that I'm the greatest." The wise rabbit agreed and let the Lion
towards a deep well filled with water. Then he showed the Lion his reflection
in the water of the well and said,"Look dear Lord, look at that lion that looks just
like you." The Lion was furious and started growling and naturally its image in the
water, the other Lion, was also equally angry. The lion showed its paws warning the
other lion and the reflection warned him too.

The lion got too impatient and angry and said,"little rabbit wait here I will go
kill the other lion and come to eat you."

Then the Lion jumped into the water at the other Lion to attack it,and so lost its life
in the well. Thus the wise rabbit saved the forest and its inhabitants from the
proud Lion.

Greed and Content

Phil was the most popular and the richest Man in the town.He had a childhood
friend Jason.Jason's father was one of the housekeepers at Phil's fathers house.
After Jason's fathers death Jason moved to another town and opened a small antique
shop and lead a contended life.

Phil inherited all the wealth from his dad.But he was never happy with whatever he had.
He always wanted more.
Wealth gave him different rich friends and partying became a part of his life.
Along came food and drinking with partying. He over ate all the time because he was not
sure when to stop.He was obese and looked ugly.Though he had too much wealth he was not happy.

Phil met Jason at amarket fair and Jason had his store on display in the fair.
Phil asked
"How are you my friend, its been a long time since we met?"

Jason said

"Hey,Phil,I am doing good.I'm so happy to see you."

The friends talked aboutthe good old times for a while and it was lunchtime already.

Jason asked
"I live near by,do you waqnt to have lunch at my place?"

Phil was not hungry but his craving for food tempted him to say "Yes".
They walked to Jason's house.
It was a small little hut and it looked very simple.
Jason had a wife and two children.
Jason's wife served food to both the friends.

Phil ate too much and never said no until all the food was over.
Phil was feeling uncomfortable after eating too much food.

Jason was worried that his friend was obese and greedy.

It was time for Phil to leave.

Jason said

"Hold on Phil,I have delicious apples growing in my garden,I will get you some."

He brought four apples and gave Phil two. Phil held those in one hand and wanted to
hold the other two in the other hand.

Jason asked

"Are you going to eat all the four apples?

Phil said

"Well, you told me they taste good. Why not? I will eat them"

Jason gave the other two too.

Phil could not hold all four at a time.He dropped an apple and tried to pick it and
dropped another one.

He kept trying and he could not hold more than two apples in his hand.
But his greed to eat itall, made him try hard to grab all four.

Jason stopped him and said,

"Phil, your hand can only take two apples even if you force it to take all.
You want to have all of it and that makes you unhappy.

Learn to be contended and you will be the happiest man."

Phil didn't understand what Jason was trying to say.
Jason repeated

"Phil, its your craving and greed to eat a lot of food that has made you really obese.
If you had learnt to say"No",you would be happier than what you are.
This apple is an example. You knew that you could not take more than two,
but you still wanted all.

Your stomach would just want little food but you over eat and spoil your stomach and health."

Phil understood that even though he had too much wealth he was unhappy because
of his greed.

He gave all apples to Jason and said "Thank you my friend, you served me delicious lunch.
I don't think my stomach can take these apples now."

Jason smiled at him.He understood that Phil learnt to say "No".

The fox and lion cubs

Once upon a time there was a lion and a lioness in a dense forest.
The couple gave birth to two cubs in due course of time. The lion asked the
lioness to stay at home and take care of the cubs.

One day the lion could not hunt any animal but found a little fox on the way home.
He took it home as a gift for the lioness. The lioness brought the fox kid with the same
love as her own cubs. The three young animals grew and played together.
One day the children saw an elephant. The lion cubs wanted to fight the elephant.
But the fox kid was frightened and asked them to run away.So they ran away and went
to the mother lioness.

The lion cubs told the story to her.She laughed ant the fox kid and called him coward.
At this the fox kid was offended and in a rage challenged ther lioness as to why she
called it a coward. The lioness replied,"What's wrong with eating an elephant"
You feel like that only because you're not a lion kid.You are the child of a fox.
If you cannot be bold please leave us and go with your tribe."
The fox kid did not want to live there any longer and left for the forest.

A coward will always remains a coward even with a company of brave.

Tasty cherries sold here

There was a huge fruit market.Ben earned his living by selling cherries.

He had a board in his stall, which said "Tasty cherries sold here."

An old man who passed by his stall looked at the board and said
"Young man why do you have "Tasty cherries sold here" written on the board.
We all know the cherries are here.So why don't you change the board to
"Tasty cherries sold."

So Ben listened to him and changed the board to

"Tasty cherries sold"

The next day, another passer by looked at the board and asked Ben,
"Why do have the board saying,"Tasty cherries sold." We all know this is a
market, and you are not giving cherries for free. Why don't you take the word"sold"
out of the board?"

Ben thought what ever the man said made sense. So he changed the board to "Tasty Cherries."

Third day,one of his customes came to his stall.

He asked.

"How are you Ben? How is sale going?"

Ben said

"I'm doing well sir,how may I help you?
The customer asked for two pounds of cherries and Ben measure and packed the
cherries for him.

The customer took a bite of one cherry and said

"They are delicious and very tasty."

He then looked at the board, which read "Tasty cherries" and said

"Ben,why do you have the board saying "Tasty cherries," ofcourse your cherries
are tasty and would you want to sell not so tasty cherries ?

He also said"Any one who buys cherries from you will know your cherries are tasty"

Ben thought for a moment and thanked him for his suggestion.

Next day he took the board out.

He had no board on display in his shop.

But to his surprise no one came over to his shop to buy cherries.

I twas almost afternoon and Ben had not sold even a pound of cherry.

But before the close of the day,one customer came and gazed at his shop.
He took one cherry suspiciously and tasted it.

He then said

"Your cherries are tasty, but lokks like you haven't sold any."

Ben said,"Yes,not even a pound"

The customer smiled at him and said "Well, may be you should let people know you have
tasty cherries in the shop.Else how will they know?"

Why don't you have a board that says,"Tasty cherries sold here"?

Ben was confused and he thought of the past week where so many people
had given him different suggestions and he had listened to everyone.

He then thought

"May be I was wrong,I should have a mind of my own and should know what is right
or wrong for me,"

His confusions were cleared and he was all set to go home that evening with a clean and clear
mind filled with his own ideas to improve sales.

United We Stand

Once there lived three friends Max the Monkey,Foxy the fox and Earl the elephant
in a dense jungle.

Max,Foxy and Earl always did things together and were always helpful to
each other.

Foxy was the oldest and the wisest amongst the three so Max and Earl always
took advice from Foxy.

One day Earl the elephant and Max the monkey had an argument about who the
most superior amongst them was.

Earl said

"I'am huge and I can lift you with my trunk and throw you to the next jungle."

Max said

"Yes Earl, you are huge, but I am tiny and I can run inside spaces you can't even
enter and escape from all the wild animals."

Earl and Max continued arguing when Foxy came.

They decided to ask Foxy.

Earl asked

"Foxy you are old and wise,so you can tell us who is superior,me or Max?"

Foxy said

"Well then I have to give you both a task to complete. There is a big peaches
tree on the other island of the jungle. Both of you should cross the river and get the peaches."

He also said

"Whoever arrives first with the peaches is the winner and I will crown them Superior."

Earl and Max took the challenge and were all set to go.

Both of them walked to the banks of the river and Earl the elephant started to
cross it.

Max asked

"Earl can you help me to cross the river? I don't know to swim."

Earl agreed and carried Max on his back and both of them crossed the river.
They walked to the peaches tree and Earl could not reach the fruits with his trunk.

Max started climbing the branches fast and started plucking the fruits.

He dropped them one by one and Earl picked them up.

Onthe way back Earl carried Max safely across the river and walked to Foxy.

Both of them were vey tired and hungry. All the three animals relished the fruits
and Earl and Max waited for Foxy's verdict.

Foxy's stomach was full and he rested for a while and said

"Both of you depended on each other to get the fruits."

"Earl could cross the river because he was big.Max could climb the tree."
"So if you didn't help each other,we would not have relished the fruits now."
He concluded that

"Each of you is superior in your own way,so no one is better than the other."

"Also both of you need each others favour to live successfully and happily."

"So don't let ego get in between your friendship."

Max and Earl understood what Foxy meant and said

"We now know that we are powerful in our own ways,so we won't look down
on each other from now. But foxy you are intelligent. That's the reason why you
relished the fruits that we brought without any hard work."

Foxy smiled and said

"Yes my friends, all of us are superior in our own ways."

Honesty and Greed

Oneday a woodcutter was cutting wood on the bank of a river.

Suddenly his axe fell into the water. The poor woodcutter did not know how to swim.

So he prayed to the river fairy.

The river fairy heard his prayer and appeared before him.

"What is the matter,my good man?" she asked.

"Help me," said the woodcutter."I am poor and I lost my axe.If I don't get my

axe back,I will starve to death."

"Very well"'answered the fairy."You shall have your axe. Fairy dived into the river

and brought up an axe made of gold. "Is this your axe,my good man?"she asked.

"No," said the woodcutter."That is not my axe."

Then the fairy brought out a silver axe.The woodcutter again said that it was

not his axe.The third time she brought up the axe which woodcutter had lost.

The woodcutter was very happy and said, "This is my axe."

The fairy was pleased with woodcutter's honesty. She gave the gold axe and the

silver axe to him and praised him for being honest and said

"The gold and silver axes are rewards for your honesty."

The happy woodcutter returned home with all the axes.

The woodcutter's neighbour was curious and went to him and asked

"How is it,my friend you have a gold and silver axe with you?"

The woodcutter told him what happened and the next day the neighbour took an

axe to the river to try his luck.

He dropped the axe into the river and waited for the fairy.

The fairy came out with the same axe he dropped and asked

"Is this your axe,my good man?"

"No," said the woodcutter."That is not my axe."

Then the fairy undestood the greed of this man and wanted to teach him

a lesson. The fairy again dived into the water and brought the silver axe out.

The woodcutter again said that it was not his axe hoping that she will bring the

gold axe next.

The fairy came out with the gold axe and asked "Is this your axe?"

And he said,"Yes its mine" and he reached his arm out to grab it.

The angry fairy dropped the gold axe in the water and said

"You are a greedy man,I know that the first axe you dropped was yours."

"The gold and the silver axe don't belong to you."

Then the fairy vanished into the water. The greedy woodcutter lost even his own

axe for being dishonest.

He returned home with nothing in hand.

The moral he learnt was"Honesty is the best policy and greed will take him nowhere."
